The Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs is inviting applications for seven Cleaner vacancies across different parts of the province. These positions are available within Ehlanzeni and Gert Sibande and include opportunities at district offices, veterinary facilities and municipalities. All seven posts offer a salary of R144,024 per annum, and applicants need Grade 10, ABET or a related qualification. Previous cleaning experience is not compulsory, as the Department lists it only as an added advantage.
The Mpumalanga Cleaner Vacancies 2026 may be suitable for entry-level applicants who are physically able to perform manual cleaning duties and are comfortable working with cleaning equipment, chemicals and workplace hygiene requirements. Applications must be submitted through the Mpumalanga provincial e-Recruitment system, and the closing date is 11 September 2026.

The Department has advertised seven separate Cleaner posts, each with its own reference number and work location. Two vacancies are based in Ehlanzeni South District, while additional posts are available at the Thaba Chweu State Vet Office in Lydenburg, Sybrandskraal Veterinary Clinic, Lekwa Municipality, Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality and Mkhondo Municipality.

| Cleaner | Mkhondo Municipality | DARDLEA/2026/08/102 | R144,024 p.a. |
The first two posts fall under Ehlanzeni South District Corporate Services. The Lydenburg vacancy falls under Ehlanzeni North District Veterinary Clinical Services, while the Sybrandskraal post is under Veterinary Clinical Services. The Lekwa, Chief Albert Luthuli and Mkhondo positions fall under Gert Sibande Agricultural District Services.
Applicants should pay attention to the reference numbers because the same job title appears several times in the advertisement. This is especially important for the two Ehlanzeni South District vacancies, which are located in the same area but have separate reference numbers.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants need Grade 10, ABET or a related qualification and must be physically capable of carrying out manual work. The Department specifically indicates that previous cleaning experience will be an added advantage, which means applicants are not required to have formal cleaning experience in order to meet the minimum advertised requirements.
The role is physically demanding, so applicants should be able to lift heavy objects and perform routine cleaning tasks throughout the working environment. Candidates should also be able to operate cleaning machinery and equipment such as vacuum cleaners, polishers and pressure cleaners. Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals, cleaning equipment and hygiene principles for ablution facilities is also required.
The Department further expects applicants to have good personal and organisational skills, communication and problem-solving abilities, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles is also listed among the required competencies.
Additional Requirement for the Veterinary Vacancies
Applicants who are interested in the Thaba Chweu State Vet Office vacancy in Lydenburg or the Sybrandskraal Veterinary Clinic vacancy should note that these two posts include an additional working-hours requirement. Candidates must be willing to work outside normal hours, including weekends and public holidays, when veterinary operations require it.
This requirement is important because the veterinary facilities may operate differently from ordinary district offices. Applicants considering these two vacancies should therefore make sure they are comfortable with the possibility of irregular working hours before applying.
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for providing routine cleaning services and maintaining a clean, hygienic and orderly working environment. The role includes cleaning offices, hallways, toilets and other buildings within the relevant centre or district office, as well as ensuring that cleaning materials and equipment are properly maintained.
The advertised duties include sweeping, scrubbing and general cleaning of work areas, emptying dustbins, requesting cleaning materials from stores when supplies are needed and informing supervisors when particular areas require additional attention. Cleaners are also expected to report workplace defects to their immediate supervisor and perform other cleaning-related duties assigned to them.
Because the role includes the use of cleaning machinery and chemicals, successful candidates must be able to handle equipment responsibly and follow workplace hygiene and safety procedures. The job therefore requires more than basic sweeping and mopping; cleaners are also responsible for looking after cleaning materials, identifying problems in the workplace and helping to maintain an acceptable standard throughout the facility.
Where the Vacancies Are Available
Two vacancies are available in Ehlanzeni South District under Corporate Services. These posts carry reference numbers DARDLEA/2026/08/96 and DARDLEA/2026/08/97. Both positions have the same salary and requirements, but applicants should still ensure that the correct reference number is selected during the application process.
A further vacancy is available at the Thaba Chweu State Vet Office in Lydenburg under Ehlanzeni North District Veterinary Clinical Services. This post carries reference number DARDLEA/2026/08/98. Another veterinary-related Cleaner post is available at Sybrandskraal Veterinary Clinic with reference number DARDLEA/2026/08/99.
The remaining three vacancies are based under Gert Sibande Agricultural District Services. These are available in Lekwa Municipality, Chief Albert Luthuli Municipality and Mkhondo Municipality, with reference numbers DARDLEA/2026/08/100, DARDLEA/2026/08/101 and DARDLEA/2026/08/102 respectively.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online through the Mpumalanga provincial e-Recruitment system at: https://erecruitment.mpg.gov.za
The Department states that emailed applications will not be considered. Applicants are required to submit the new Z83 Application for Employment form together with a recent detailed CV. A recent comprehensive CV, ID information and contactable references should also be provided, with telephone numbers and email addresses included.
Because several Cleaner posts are advertised under the same department, applicants should carefully confirm the centre and reference number before submitting their application. Selecting the wrong reference number could result in an application being considered for a different location than the one intended.
Supporting Documents
Certified copies of qualifications and other supporting documents are not required from every applicant at the initial application stage. The Department states that shortlisted candidates will be required to submit certified copies of their qualifications, Senior Certificate, identity document and driver’s licence, where applicable, on or before the interview date.
Applicants who hold foreign qualifications are responsible for having them evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority. Candidates should therefore make sure their qualifications and personal information are correct before applying and that supporting documents will be available if they are shortlisted.
Shortlisting and Selection Process
Correspondence will be limited to shortlisted candidates. Applicants who are not contacted within three months after the closing date should consider their applications unsuccessful. The Department also states that successful appointments are subject to positive results from the required security-clearance process.
Shortlisted candidates will be required to undertake two pre-entry assessments. One will be a practical exercise used to assess suitability against the technical and general requirements of the post, while the second will be an integrity or ethical-conduct assessment. Candidates who reach this stage must also be available for assessments and interviews on dates determined by the Department.
